Tether is one object from the collection produced as part of my final Masters Thesis; Homebound - An Exploration of Designed Emotive Objects as Creators of a Movable Home. Homebound explores the shifting reality of home. We have become less connected to place as we move for work, love and experience. We make lives in rented apartments, hotels, short term lets and shared houses. The project aims to explore how a transient way of living might become more grounded and well balanced through the consideration of Home as a collection of objects, rather than a place.
When our homes become impermanent, our things become our constants, anchoring us to the buildings and spaces in which we dwell. Tether provides the important grounding influence of light. It is designed to augment the feeling of connectedness through weight, material and atmosphere.
